WHAT
Balayage is a French word meaning "to sweep." This is how the process got its name, as hairdressers use a sweeping, freehand motion to paint the hair.

WHY
Balayage creates a look that duplicates the natural haircolor of a child: a sun-kissed effect.

HOW
Without the use of foils, the highlights are painted onto the surface of the hair. Since the technique is free hand, the colorist can follow the haircut and see precisely where each highlight should be placed; this creates a unique and custom color.

WHO
It is ideal for someone who is new to highlights, someone who is looking for gradual variations in her color, or someone who isn't looking to maintain her hair color regularly. Blondes can be both buttery or beachy. Brunettes can be caramel or honey. Redheads can be coppery.
